Mary Walrafen

Mary Irene Walrafen, 90, of Meriden, died Nov. 5, 2008 at Linnwood Plus Care Home in Valley Falls. She was a homemaker.

Born Oct. 12, 1918 at Peabody, she was the daughter of Howard Alden and Hazel Edith (Runyon) Ray. She was a 1936 graduate of Peabody High School and attended Emporia Teachers College.

On Oct. 28, 1939, she married Norman Orlo Walrafen in Nebraska. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Loper.

Survivors include one son, Verne Walrafen of Ozawkie; one daughter, Juanita Kay Shipley of Blaine, Wash.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service are 11 a.m. Thursday at Meriden United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time. Services provided by Order of Eastern Star, OES Chapter #399 will follow at the church.

Burial is at Meriden Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church and may be sent in care of the Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 331, Meriden KS 66512.
