Mary Jean “Jeanie” Goertz, 65, died Thursday at Heartland of Marion, Ohio.

Burial with a graveside service will take place 10 a.m. Friday at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro. A memorial service was held Monday at Mount Vernon Avenue Church of Christ, Marion, Ohio.

She was born Sept. 11, 1950, to H. Norton Goertz and Betty (Funk) Goertz in Hillsboro.

After graduating from Hillsboro High School, she went on to Bethany College, Wichita State University, University of Northern Colorado, and Northern Arizona University.

She taught at University of Texas Pan Am and Eastern Kentucky University. As a consultant, Jeanie helped excel The Ohio and Colorado Departments of Education in the area of gifted education.

She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Goertz of San Ramon, California and Cheryl Wulp of Atlanta.
