Mary Ann Wiens

Mary Ann (Bartel) Wiens, 84, of Marion passed away Sept. 26, in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Jan. 13, 1930, to Ben and Elma (Funk) Bartel. 

On June 25, 1949, she was married to Harold J. Wiens, who predeceased her April 19, 1993.

She is survived by one son, Gerald (Jan) Wiens of Marion; daughters Diann (Marvin) Cline of Smolan, Denise (Stan) Hett of Wichita, Joni (Jim) Crofoot, Janice (Don) Hodson, Loreen (Jerry ) Hett, all of Marion, and Loraine (Kevin) McGahee of Shawnee; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann’s life was devoted to raising her children and providing day care for many years. She opened a preschool in her home where hundreds of preschoolers attended over many years and benefited from her love of learning and her Christian values.

A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. Following the service there will be a reception for family and friends in Wesley Hall until 4:30 pm.

The family has chosen memorials to Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Marion Elementary School library. There will be boxes placed at the church entrances for food or paper goods donations for the Marion County Food Bank.
