Marjory Talbott
A celebration of the life of Marjory Mae (Collett) Talbott, who passed to her heavenly reward Jan. 22, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, was 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the United Methodist Church, 511 Chestnut St. in Halstead.
Lunch was provided for relatives afterwards. Private burial will be later at Halstead Cemetery.
A viewing with relatives was 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca St., Wichita.
Born in 1933, Marjory celebrated her 90th birthday Aug. 23.
She grew up on a farm near Marion, the third of nine children of Henry and Ethel (Higgins) Collett.
She graduated from Marion High School in 1951 and from Halstead School of Nursing in 1954.
She was a nurse at Hertzler Clinic for 31 years, retiring in 1995, and was married for 50 years to John Talbott of Halstead.
Marge was a true angel on Earth and never spoke badly of others.
She was quiet, resilient, funny, and always up for a trip, an adventure, or an estate sale.
She also was a talented seamstress, embroiderer, quilter, woodworker, gardener, and baker and a voracious KU, KSU and Chiefs fan.
She never missed her grandchildren’s soccer games, football games, baseball games, and band concerts.
She was the best diagnostic nurse at helping family, which earned her the title “Dr. Talbott.”
She was a 65-year member of the Halstead Legion Auxiliary, where she served as secretary for many years.
She also was secretary of the White Banner Nurses Alumni, secretary for many years for her class of 1951, and a charter board member for the Halstead Historical Society.
Known for her homemade ice cream, she was active with the Halstead Community Foundation as well as the senior center, where she started peppernut sales still carried on today.
She earned the Halstead Good Neighbor Award and Halstead Lifetime Achievement Award.
Marge was preceded in death by husband John, son Brad, and brother Steve.
She is survived by siblings Howard Collett, Marion; Shirley Bowers, Marion; Clarice Hammer (and husband Bill), Olathe; Anita Sly, Salina; Roma Skaggs, Lawrence; and Mark Collett (and wife Micky) and Stacy Collett (and wife Carla), Marion.
Other survivors include son Pat Talbott (and wife Sue), Overland Park; daughters Deanna Talbott and Gina Marx (and husband Terry), Wichita; grandchildren Kari Talbott (and husband Jon), Rochester, New York; Bobby Cummings, Wichita; Margo Stuckert, New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Kori Truono, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Mason Talbott (and Armondo), Logan Talbott, and John Henry Marx, Wichita.
Step-grandchildren include Billi Gartman (and Duane), Bradenton, Florida, and Skyler and Leah Jones, Overland Park.
Also surviving are great-granddaughters Teagan and Rowan Truono of Cincinnati, Ohio, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
