Marion students placed second at the Kansas Welding Institute’s invitational metal inert gas welding contest Thursday.

Individually, Johnny Zieammermann placed second overall and Karlee Fetrow placed 22nd. Trevor Schafers and Ella Mackey were also on the team.

The contest at North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit required team members to read and interpret blueprints and correctly place and perform five welds on 3/8ths inch plate and to perform five other welds on 1/4th-inch plate.

They also completed a written test on MiG welding.
