Marion seniors to dine on Hillsboro meals

Staff writer

Until a now cook is hired, Marion seniors will be eating hot meals prepared at Hillsboro Senior Center and brought to Marion.

The emergency service will begin July 8. Reservations will be called in a day ahead.

North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Agency announced the arrangement Thursday after the center went four days without a cook and without a noon meal.

Agency representatives met with Hillsboro and Marion senior centers Thursday before making the announcement.

“More volunteers will be needed in the kitchen to handle the food,” Marion manager Janet Bryant said.

Frozen meals on wheels will continue to be delivered every weekday except July 4.

Bryant said she posted a notice on the front door last Monday that meals were not available. Several groups came in on Tuesday and had to be sent away, she said.

She was getting calls from people every day asking whether there would be a meal or whether a cook had been found.

Meanwhile, the search for a cook continues.

When asked for a comment on the new arrangement Friday, the Hillsboro Senior Center cook said she was too busy to share her thoughts about the matter. Apparently, details have not yet been worked out.
