The Warriors opened their season in Hesston with the girls finishing 11th and the boys 15th.
“For most, this was their first ever high school wrestling tournament, and for one, it was a first sporting event in general,” coach Tyler McMichael said.
Brian Nguyen led the Warriors with a second-place finish and a record of 4-1.
“We are excited to see where Brian is able to go this season in his final campaign,” McMichael said.
Sam Rziha finished sixth, Sigsbee Ostlee seventh, and Brody Coleman 12th.
“Everyone came away from Hesston with a win, which is great to see for our first tournament,” McMichael said.
Morgan Dixon, Cadence Bialek, and Vyolett Dawson each finished in fifth on the girls’ side. Olivia Mathews took sixth.
“We definitely have some things that we need to work on, such as taking shots while on our feet and being able to score points from the top position,” McMichael said. “It’s important that we fix our weak points so that we are not making the same mistakes every single weekend.”

Aimee Kelley and Claire Morey each placed third Thursday at the Chase County Women’s Jamboree.
“It was a great opportunity for Aimee and Claire to get some quality mat time, and both were able to pick up a win,” coach Scott O’Hare said.
On Friday, the Trojan boys traveled to Elis for the Railer Round-Robin.
Jaxon Chrislip took third while Sutton Redger finished fourth.
“This tournament provides a great early-season challenge for our wrestlers, as we see several quality teams from central and western Kansas,” O’Hare said.
William Andreas and Logan Rogers placed sixth. Lucas Sorensen and Jackson Kleiber finished seventh.
“Hopefully, the wrestlers use the experiences from this tournament as motivation and get a better feel for the areas they need to improve on,” O’Hare said.
