Marion girls win Chase County relays

Marion’s girls placed first and Marion’s boys second out of 10 schools at Thursday’s Tim Griffin Spring Relays at Chase County.

Kenna Wesner won the triple jump, and Kayla McPhail the 100 meter dash. Gabby Newell hurdled her way into first at 100 meters. And Maria Carlson, Addison Cooper, Taryn Kraus, and Kayla McPhail pulled together to win the 4x400 meter relay.

Luke Wessel proved himself no stranger to first place, winning the 1,600-meter run. Christopher Beery won the 3,200 meter with teammate Eli Klenda coming in third.

“We had scoring from every sector of the team, and that is always great when all areas contribute points,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro, meanwhile, traveled to Smoky Valley for a meet Thursday, with the boy’s team finishing ninth and the girls 10th out of 13 schools.

Addison Jost won the 800-meter run with teammate Moriah Jost right behind in second.

Seth Driggers came in third in the 200-meter run, and Zachary Denholm placed fourth in 110-meter hurdles. Angel Rivera tied for fifth in discus.

Goessel

Goessel was host for its only track meet April 11. The boys team finished five points behind Sterling for sixth place. The girls finished fourth out of six teams.

The boys 4x100 relay team ran a respectable race, winning over Hesston, Sterling, Moundridge, and Canton-Galva

Teammates Grant Bryant, Kacen Smith, Joey Lapp, and Jake Wiens combined for a season best time of 45.91.

Wiens also won the long jump, and Eli Boden stretched to win the triple Jump.

Aimee Funk led the Bluebird girls with scores in four individual events.

She finished second in long jump and third in triple jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

Logan Bryant placed second place in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 200-meter dash.

Centre

Centre traveled to Burrton for a meet April 11.

Kaitlynn Bina led the girls team, winning the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. Olivia Carlson matched her teammate with a victory in the triple jump.

Anthony Rziha placed second in triple jump. Teammate Robert Spohn backed him up by placing second in high jump.

Centre placed sixth out of six schools overall.

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns finished sixth among six schools April 11 at Lyons

Hailey Hamm took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. Alexsis Anderson was 9th in the 100-meter dash and 13th in the 200-meter dash.

Chris Spencer finished sixth in the 800-meter run and eighth in the 1,600-meter run. Cade Gossen came in 14th in the 100 meter dash and 11th in the 200-meter dash.
