Marion boys 2nd, girls 3rd at relays

Fifteen schools descended onto Marion Friday for the annual Marion Relays. Included were teams from Peabody-Burns, Goessel, and Centre.

Marion boys placed second place as a team while the girls were third.

Goessel girls were fifth while their boys placed 12th.

Centre girls placed ninth and the boys placed 15th.

Peabody-Burns did not have enough athletes to be scored as a team.

Centre’s Kaitlynn Bina won in the 3,200 and placed third in the 1,600.

Marion senior Gabby Newell won the 100 hurdles. Goessel’s Jenna Flaming placed second; Centre’s Olivia Carlson, fourth; and Marion’s Taryn Kraus, sixth.

Kraus went on to win the 300 hurdles with Goessel’s Cheyenne Sawyer behind her in second.

Marion’s Luke Wessel won in 800 and was part of the Marion boys relay team that won in the 400. Others on the team were Jesse Snyder, Jonathan Frese, and Wyatt Soyez.

Goessel’s Aimee Funk and Abbigail Funk placed third and fourth in the 100.

Marion’s Dylan Kraus placed third in the 400.

Goessels girls relay team placed second in the 100. The team included Aimee and Abbigail Funk, along with Cheyenne Sawyer, and Logan Bryant.

Marion’s Madisyn Hulett and Sophia Dye, placed third and fourth respectively in discus.

Marion’s Jonathan Frese placed third place in the 100 and 200.

Marion’s Jackson Bitonti, Jackson Howard, and Brian Nguyen placed fourth, fifth, and sixth in discus.

Nguyen placed third in javelin.

The Warriors will be in Chase County on Thursday for their next meet and then back home Tuesday for a meet that will include Hillsboro, Centre, and Goessel.

Peabody-Burns will travel Tuesday to Fairfield.
