March is special month for 'music'

Schools plan events

The 35th annual celebration of Music In Our Schools Month will include musical events throughout the Peabody-Burns schools.

This year’s theme is “Music! Just Imagine …” Schools and communities throughout the country and overseas will celebrate the week with concerts and other activities, providing the public an opportunity to observe the processes and results of music education.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music, and is part of a balanced education.

Peabody-Burns Junior High School students will perform solos and an ensemble recital at 7 p.m. Thursday in the bandroom. Performers and performances will be those that will be presented at the Heart of America League Junior High Music Festival.

PBHS Voices will present a dinner theater at 6 p.m. in Brown Building Concert Hall.

Fifth and sixth grade band students will present a short music program at 10 a.m. Monday in the Peabody-Burns Elementary School multi-purpose room.

On Tuesday, junior high students will perform in the Heart of America League Music Festival at Ell-Saline Middle School.

PBJH-PBHS instrumental department will present a Music In Our Schools Month Concert at 7 p.m. March 12 in Brown Building Concert Hall. The concert will feature the PBJH and PBHS concert bands.

The conclusion of the week’s events will be a USD 398 faculty-staff recital at 7 p.m. March 26 at Peabody United Methodist Church.
