Hillsboro Police arrested Toby Lee Jones, 25, of Hillsboro at 9:10 a.m. Nov. 27 for allegedly operating a motor vehicle that was not equipped with an ignition interlock device.
Hillsboro police chief Dan Kinning said Jones’s girlfriend, Maranda Simhiser, reported that Jones took off in her car just before 8 a.m. without her consent.
“They had an argument,” Kinning said.
Upon running Jones’s driver’s license police discovered that Jones was required to drive vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock device, Kinning said.
“He should not have been driving without the device,” Kinning said.
Officer Gary Slater’s arrest report indicated that Jones was suspected of consuming alcohol. Slater also observed Jones driving Simhiser’s car on a public roadway.
Kinning said Jones had allegedly been drinking the night before, but he was not intoxicated at the time of the arrest.
He said people with DUIs on their record typically have their license suspended for one year and have to drive with an ignition interlock device.
Jones faces charges of operating a car without a ignition interlock device and refusal to submit to a preliminary breath or saliva test. Kinning said Simhiser was not filing charges of vehicle theft against Jones.
