Louis Stika

Services for retired farmer, carpenter, and mechanic Louis C. Stika Jr., age 92, who passed away June 28, 2018, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3.

The rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. July 3. Both services will be at Holy Family Parish in Marion with burial to follow at Marion Cemetery.

He was bom June 1, 1926, to Joseph and Mary (Oborny) Stika at their family farm home east of Marion.

He married his sweetheart, Sarah Fortmeyer, on Oct. 17, 1950, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.

Two daughters were born to his union, Rita and Janet.

Louis was in the Army from July 26, 1945, to Dec. 30, 1946, and received an honorable discharge. He was a T-4 with the 295th Quartermasters and served 18 months, of which 10 months were in Germany.

He was a member of Marion VFW Post No. 6958 and helped in its construction.

He was a lifelong resident of Marion and a member of the Holy Family Parish church in Marion. He assisted as a carpenter in the construction of the church in 1951.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sarah, in 2016; his brother, Valarion Stika, in 2005; his sister, Henrietta Waner, in 2015; his son-in-law, Jeff Tomlinson, in 2013; his grandson, Gary Tomlinson, in 2016; his great-grandchildren Lily Marler in 2006 and Corey and Mattie Marler in 2006; and his granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Marler, in 2017.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita Tomlinson of Marion and Janet Marler (and husband Doug) of Marion; two grandchildren, Kevin Marler and Karen Wedd (and husband Donald); eight great-grandchildren Tori (and husband Coty), Katie, Jackson, Caleb, Jimi, Emily, Tristan and Tanner; two great-great-grandchildren Briley and Greyson; and a sister, Victoria Smolik of Marion.

We have all been blessed to have had him in our lives. He is greatly loved and will be missed by many.
