Lois Hayes

A celebration of life for Lois Mae (Remmers) Hayes, who passed away peacefully Aug. 14, 2026, at St. Luke Living Center, will be 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 11, 2026, at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.

A mall service is planned at 10:30 a.m. Private burial for immediate family members will be later.

Born Oct. 26, 1944, to Earl and Alta Mae (Stamp) Remmers in Florence, Lois was the only daughter with five brothers.

She went to Florence High School, graduating in the class of 1962, and attended college, becoming a certified public accountant.

On Sept. 18, 1976, she married Jack Hayes at Florence Christian Church.

Lois owned a liquor store in Lincolnville; worked on taxes; worked as a highway construction inspector for Cook, Flatt, & Strobel Engineering; and worked in retail at True Value in Salina.

Her main passion was bowling and spending time with her family. Lois was an avid bowler, loved shooting pool, and enjoyed being outside on warm days working in the yard or garden.

Lois started bowling in the mid-’70s and continued throughout most of her life in Marion, Herington, and Salina.

A few special moments she celebrated were getting the grand duchess at state bowling and bowler of the year while bowling in Salina.

She is survived by her five children, Kelly (and husband Marty) Bell of Burdick; Bonnie (and husband Dave) Hastings of Gentry, Arkansas; Sherri Pankratz of Lincolnville; Fred Hayes of Lincolnville; and Shane (and wife Jody) Hayes of Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Other survivors include her brothers; Kenneth Remmers of Lincolnville, Eugene Remmers of Lincolnville, and Duane Remmers of Lincolnville; her sister-in-law, Karen Remmers of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and very many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hayes; her companion, Jerry Davis; her parents; two brothers, Alvin and Warren Remmers; and her beloved grandson, Calvin Riggs.

In honor of Lois’s love for the Kansas City Chiefs, guests at her celebration of life are being encouraged to wear Chiefs football-themed clothing.
