Treatment in Kansas
A newly released study by the organization Mental Health America, “The State of Mental Health in America 2023,” ranks Kansas as one of the worst states for people who have mental illness.
The study ranked Kansas the worst overall in 51 states including the District of Columbia because 9.05% of youth had substance use disorder in the past year, 26.02% of adults had mental illness, and 6.44% of adults had serious thoughts of suicide.
The study ranked Kansas 48th in access to mental health care.
During 2022, Kansas increased funding by $12.6 million to enhance access to mental health treatment.
