Livestock workshop is Monday

Farmers and ranchers are invited to participate in a one-day workshop on managing livestock wintering areas Monday at the Straussberg Baptist Church Hall north of Marion.

The workshop will be an opportunity for participants to gain information on evaluating their own winter-feeding operations and the management of the wintering area before and after the feeding season.

Topics to be covered include livestock nutritional needs, matching livestock and forage needs, managing the wintering area, shelter needs, and fencing and watering designs.

A farm tour will be included in the afternoon, to evaluate a feeding area and discuss alternatives for improvement and management of that area.

The workshop will begin at 10 a.m., at the Straussberg Baptist Church Hall, 2249 Pawnee Road, Marion, and end at 3 p.m. at the farm site. A catered meal will be served at noon in the church hall.

Speakers for the event will include experts from Kansas State University, Kansas National Resource Conservation Service, Extension and the Kansas Rural Center.

Organizers request participants register for the meal. For more information, and to register for the meal, contact the Marion County Extension Office at (620) 382-2325, or the Marion County Conservation District at (620) 382-3520.
