Tabor College’s Lifelong Learning program kicks off at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 6 with the life story of an accomplished local.

Steve Fast, Hillsboro Museum coordinator, will present “The Life of Dietrich Hoeppner” in the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.

Hoeppner joined the Mennonite Central Committee and served through the 1920s as a representative in Siberia during the Russian Civil War.

He later achieved a degree in optics from Zeiss in Germany and returned to serve Hillsboro as the local eye doctor.

In addition to sharing Hoeppner’s story, Fast will demonstrate a working model steam engine that Hoeppner made as a high school student in the early 1900s.

The public is welcome to attend all Lifelong Learning programs and may register at the door. Fees are $5 per session or $15 per individual for the full semester and $29 for a pair.
