Rights amid wrongs

To the editor:

Last week, with the “super Tuesday” primaries, the candidates for president were established for the November election.

Joe Biden is not a perfect candidate, nor has he been a perfect president the last four years. But he was able to guide the country out of the worst pandemic in 100 years and restore an economy that had crashed.

It generally is agreed that the U.S. economy is the best in the world at this point. Unemployment is at 3%, the lowest in 50 years.

Larry Ensey opined last week that the country is going to hell in a handbasket and chaos is wild in the streets.

I wish that he had given us some idea of what his choice, I assume, Donald Trump, would do for the country.

One thing that we know for sure is that the mob, inspired by Donald Trump, that raided the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, beating and injuring the police, smearing feces on the walls, parading a confederate flag, and causing millions in damages have been labeled as hostages and patriots with pardons promised on Day 1 of the Trump second term.

Meanwhile the ex-president continues to spread the big lie that the 2020 election was stolen and do every trick in the book to postpone trials for his many indictments.

If he truly believes he did no wrong, why won’t he allow the trials to go on and prove his innocence?

Ensey expressed a lot of concern about the Constitution being disrespected and violated nationally while it would seem to me that elected officials in Marion County with law degrees have some problems with recognizing a basic Constitutional right — freedom of the press.
