To the Editor:
I’d like to thank some groups of young people for their contributions to the success of the Peabody Main Street Association’s “Peabody Prairie Christmas” event several weeks ago. Having kids involved was a lot of fun and we hope that they continue to participate in downtown events.
The Peabody-Burns High School family and consumer science class, taught by Cathy Silvers, made the delicious peach cobbler served at the Chuck Wagon supper. When we went to the school to pick up the cobblers (they filled a whole truck bed, by the way) a handful of students jumped right in to help us transport the food. We appreciate Cathy Silvers and her students for getting involved in the holiday event.
It was nice to have the school bands in the parade. A parade just isn’t a parade without a band or two. Everyone along the parade route thoroughly enjoyed them and we hope they continue to participate in community events! Pat director Steve Glover on the back the next time you see him.
The Boy Scouts helped at the Chuck Wagon supper by clearing tables and assisting with the clean up. They were fun to work with and did a wonderful job. We hope they say “yes” the next time we ask them to help. Thanks to Carol Smith for her leadership with this group, too!
Several youth groups and individuals were in the parade and took part in the downtown activities as well.
And last, but not least, thanks to the community for coming out and participating in the event. It’s enjoyable when we all get together. It is one of the things I love about Peabody — we’re always ready for a celebration and we always do it up right!
