To the editor:
I want to thank the Marion County Record staff for representing democratic values where they would otherwise be lost.
More than anything, I want to thank you for continually asking legitimate questions of our local elites. Only the sort of newspaper that understands the public’s interest and our right to know would persist in the troublesome occupation of asking those types of questions, perhaps especially in a small town, where you see those you question at the gas station and grocery store.
So it’s a tough business you have been in for a while, the sort of business other newspapers have decided is too tough. And now, those in authority want to punish and stop the Record from making such inquiries.
I want you to know how grateful I am for my kids, who get to grow up in a slightly more democratic town simply by virtue of Record reporters questioning those in authority on behalf of the public.
