LETTERS: Football players help place flags at cemetery

To the editor:

The Avenue of Flags at Peabody Prairie Lawn Cemetery this year honored 206 deceased United States military veterans by flying their flags during Memorial Day weekend.

Setting up flagpoles, attaching nametags, raising, retrieving, and putting away 206 flags is a huge task. It could not have been done without the help of many volunteers.

The most difficult task in the procedure is setting up and taking down the flagpoles. We want to recognize and thank Peabody-Burns football coach David Pickens and the football team for taking on this task. Young, enthusiastic, and strong athletes made this difficult job seem easy.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this event possible. Your help and the help of new volunteers will be needed next year and in the years ahead.

Thank you!
