Leland Chizek

Leland E. “Red” Chizek, 86, of Lincolnville died Feb. 7, 2012, at Lakewood Senior Living-Seville, in Wichita. He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Agenda to Edward V. and Martha V. (Hajek) Chizek.

He was a farmer, semi-truck driver, and oil well driller. He lived in the Ramona and Lincolnville area since he was 5. He graduated from Ramona High School in 1943 and served in World War II.

He married Carolina M. Smith on Feb. 28, 1950, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Marion. She preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward Merle Chizek in 1963, and his parents.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie Brown of Wichita and Sandy Larsen of Ellsworth; four sons, Terry Chizek of Marion, Galen Chizek of Lehigh, John Chizek of Lincolnville, and Gene Chizek of Tampa; two brothers, Gaylord Chizek of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Orlin Chizek of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Bonnie Miller of Las Animas, Colo., and Donna DeSavia of Los Angeles, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Christian Mass was Friday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen, with Father Hien Nguyen officiating. Military honors by a special funeral detail from Fort Riley followed. A Rosary was Thursday in Pilsen. Burial was scheduled for a later date at Pilsen Catholic Cemetery.
