Legion Riders assist with soldiers' send-off

National Guard Army soldiers Spc. Andrew Weber of Florence, Staff Sgt. Travis Davis of Peabody, Sgt. Rodney Clark of Ft. Riley, and Staff Sgt. Jesse Thomas of Wamego were honored Saturday night with an American Legion Riders’ send-off at a reception in their honor at the Post 95 Legion Hall in Peabody.

The send-off, reception, and a dance were hosted by Middlecreek, Inc. of Peabody, employers of both Davis and Weber. All the men are being deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Fourteen American Legion Riders from Canton, Hillsboro, Marion, McPherson, and Mulvane met at the Bikers’ Bistro on Peabody Street and, with flags flying, rode to the Legion Hall downtown for the send-off.

All four men were presented with flags signed by the Legion Riders and others that said “We support our troops,” a Challenge coin, and a blue star banner to hang in a window at home indicating a family member serving in the military.

The soldiers will leave next week.
