Lawrence V. “Larry” Morgan, 91, of Hope died Feb. 1, 2012, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
He was born April 12, 1920, on the family farm near Hope to John F. and Clara E. (Buttel) Morgan.
He grew up in the Hope community and attended rural schools, graduating from Hope High School in 1938. He was a farmer and stockman on the family farm homestead.
He married Marjorie E. Lorson on Oct. 18, 1945, in a wedding officiated by Father William Fitzgerald of the Elmo Parish and Father John Fitzgerald of the Herington Parish at St. Columba Catholic Church, Elmo. They made their home north of Hope.
He was a member of St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hope and of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a charter member of the Lyons Creek Watershed and served 42 years in various positions with the watershed.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 28, 2012; an infant son, Ross M. Morgan; a daughter, Kathleen Morgan Lagoski; a brother, Bernard Morgan; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Mitchell and Rose Falen.
He is survived by three sons, Patrick Morgan of Wichita, Gregory Morgan of Junction City, Jeffrey Morgan of Hope; two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Lewis of Anniston, Ala., and Clara Virginia “Babe” Wood of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church, Hope, with Father Mark Wesely as Celebrant. Burial was in St. Phillip’s Cemetery, Hope. A Rosary was Friday at the church.
