Laura Flaming
Laura (Schmidt) Flaming, 84, North Newton, died Feb. 22.
Family visitation is set for Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. Both will be at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel.
She was born July 12, 1931, to Ernst and Ella Schmidt at Goessel. She married Randolf Flaming on May 2, 1950. She was a lifelong member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.
In the early years of her marriage, she was an active partner in the farming operation. Later, she was a baker at the “1906” and Barnstormer restaurants in Goessel. She also operated the Quilt Shop fabric store in North Newton and was a transport driver for Bethesda Retirement Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Warren.
She is survived by siblings Darlene Thiessen of McPherson; Melvin Schmidt of Hyattsville, Maryland; DeVera Wenger of Beaverton, Oregon; and DuMont Schmidt of Blue Mound, Wisconsin; children, Ron Flaming of North Newton; Dwight Flaming of Goessel; and Charlotte Warkentine of Chandler, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be given to Mennonite Central Committee or Alexanderwohl Church in lieu of flowers.
