Laura Edwards

Laura E. Edwards, 98, of Herington, died Jan. 16, 2012, at Medicalodges of Herington.

She was born Nov. 8, 1913, the daughter of William Paul and Mary Ann (Hammer) Gutsch of Lincolnville. She graduated from Diamond Valley High School, Burdick, in 1932.

She married Elmer D. “Jobe” Edwards, on November 2, 1935, at Abilene. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1978.

Edwards ran Burdick Telephone and Grocery for many years. She worked for 25 years with the Bank of Herington, as a clerk, teller, and bookkeeper.

She would have received her 80-year certificate this year as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and held many offices.

Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel; and Saturday at Herington United Methodist Church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Herington United Methodist Church, with Sue Talbot-Belknap officiating. Eastern Star Services will follow. Burial will be at Delavan Cemetery.

She is also preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth Krause, and Clara Rindt; twin brothers who died in infancy; and her parents.

The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, to either Dickinson County Hospice or Herington United Methodist Women. Memorials may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
