Larry Hamler

Larry Dean Hamler, 69, of McPherson, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Larry was born in McCook, Nebraska, on June 29, 1948, to Frances and Roberta (Blake) Hamler. He attended McCook High School as well as McCook Community College.

He married Lana Farmer in 1967, and they had three children. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 1995.

On Dec. 27, 1997, he married Marilyn (Koehn) Shaft in McPherson.

 Larry retired from Central Plastics in McPherson in January 2013, where he was the sales manager. He was also sales manager for Graves Truckline in Salina; ANR in Columbia, Missouri; and TRW in McCook, Nebraska.

Larry was a former president of the Lions Club in Inman and was instrumental in organizing a children’s fishing derby.

Larry enjoyed golf, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a gifted artist and sculptor. He also was active in his community and volunteered for Relay for Life.

Larry always had a smile and kind words for others and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.

 Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of the home, and his children, William (and wife Bobbi) Hamler of Broomfield, Colorado; Kimberly (and husband Sean) Herrington of Salina; Thomas Hamler of Columbia, Missouri; and Brad (and wife Candra) Shaft of McPherson.

Other survivors include two sisters, Beverly (and husband John) Wilcox of Columbia, Missouri, and Shirley (and husband J.V.) Lovinggood of Willis, Texas; nine grandchildren, Meghan and Ali Oliver, Addison Shaft, Simon Hamler, Katelyn (and husband Cain) Smith, and Tyler, Taite (and husband Kylie), Timeri, and Trevor Herrington; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Smith and Jeremiah Herrington.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lana, and his parents.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, with family receiving guests from 5 to 7pm.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at First Christian Church, McPherson, and will be followed by graveside service at New Gottland Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Relay For Life of McPherson or Inman Lions Club in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut St., McPherson, KS 67460. Personal condolences may be sent to the family at www.stockhamfamily.com.
