Lake's pride of eagles is 100 strong

Staff writer

Almost every weekend, Kevin and Lori Freuchting take drives looking for wildlife.

Nearly every time, they see 30 or more eagles. One recent weekend, they counted 50 of the majestic birds.

“This is the most we’ve ever seen,” he said. “The big numbers are at Marion Reservoir.”

Tory Hett of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told him biologists conducted an eagle census one day and counted 98 at the lake.

A banker by day, Kevin has been taking landscape and wildlife photos for at least 10 years, using equipment that allows him to get the photos he likes.

Some of his best have been published on the Kansas Bankers Association calendar and in other publications.

He recently enlisted Kylie Schroeder’s graphic design class at Marion High School to help develop a website: kevskornerphotography.com .

He and his wife, Lori, live at the southeastern edge of Marion.

“I’ve taken a lot of wildlife photos right off my back deck,” he said.

He’s photographed deer, foxes, opossums, birds, and other creatures.
