The Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team put two matches in the win column Sept. 18 with victories over Wakefield and Centre. The Lady Warriors defeated Wakefield, 25-15 and 25-15, and Centre, 16-25, 25-18, and 25-16. The team traveled Tuesday to Solomon.
Wakefield
The Lady Warriors built a big lead in game one. Tori Schroeder ended the competition with four aces, 25-15.
Game two began with an ace from Kaycy Gonzalez. Brandee Burnett added a kill and Gonzalez earned another ace. Wakefield then came back to tie the game. Two kills from Paige Lewis broke the tie and Schroeder Gonzalez and Lewis help build a 21-15 lead. Burnett ended the game with two aces, 25-15.
Centre
PBHS offense struggled in game one. Despite aces from Burnett, Schroeder and McKenzie Ensminger the Lady Warriors lost, 16-25.
A kill from Schroeder gave the PBHS squad their first point of game two. Lewis added a kill and Sarah Hofkamp earned a block and the game was tied at 4. PBHS went on a 6-point run that included a Hofkamp and Burnett block, a Rayna Barnes tip, an Ensminger ace, and a Gonzalez tip. The PBHS team led, 12-6, before Centre added 5 and came back to cut the Lady Warrior lead to 3, 14-11. Another run of points from the PBHS squad gave them a big lead. A Gonzalez kill ended game two in favor of the Lady Warriors, 25-18.
Burnett opened game three with a kill. Schroeder and Lewis each added kills and PBHS led, 4-3. Two Hofkamp tips, a Lewis ace and a Burnett tip helped to build a 10-4 lead. Centre challenged but Lewis scored four kills to boost the PBHS squad to a 19-16 advantage. Hofkamp ended game three with two tips and the Lady Warriors defeated Centre, 25-16.
