Lady Warriors win against Rural Vista

Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors won Tuesday night against Rural Vista 43-40.

Coach Scott Bauer was happy with the win.

“We started out slow in the first quarter,” Bauer said. “We only scored 2 points but we picked it up defensively, we picked up momentum, the crowd got into it, and we got our win.”

The Lady Warriors weren’t as lucky during Friday’s game against Centre. The Lady Warriors lost 44-12, with Katy Benson leading the scoring with 9 points.

“I felt like Friday we did not play like we are capable of playing,” Bauer said. “I felt we made a lot of mental errors, that hurt us early in the game.”

Bauer said that the girls picked up their intensity during the second half of the game, which “lead to some steals and easy baskets.”

The Lady Warriors will play Elyria Christian Friday, and Bauer is ready for another home game.

“It’s another game we should be able to compete in,” Bauer said. “Get the crowd into it, get things going our way, and see if we get two wins in a row.”

Boys fall to Rural Vista, Centre

The boys team lost Tuesday against Rural Vista 69-37.

The loss followed a 40-29 loss Friday against Centre, in which the Warriors trailed at halftime by 8 points.

Austin Reynolds led scoring against Centre with 11 points, followed by Clayton Philpott with 8 and Cody Partridge with 6.

Head coach Caleb Good noticed the difference between their Jan. 5 game against Goessel and their game against Centre.

“We played pretty well against Goessel,” Good said, “and didn’t play as well on Friday.”

Good noted that while defense was strong, it was the offense where the boys struggled.

“Defensively, we were OK holding them to just 40 points,” Good said. “Turnovers killed us in offense.”

However, Good isn’t letting a loss affect his positivity.

“The effort was very good,” Good said. “Even though we were down, we played until the final horn.”

Peabody-Burns teams will face the Elyria Christian Eagles starting at 6 p.m. Friday at home.
