Lady Warriors still seeking victory

Two more losses this past week left the Lady Warriors basketball team of Peabody-Burns High School still looking for a win. The team lost to Burrton Dec. 14 at home, 33-24. They were also defeated by Berean Academy at home on Friday, 39-22. PBHS basketball will break until after the holidays and be back in action on Jan. 4 when they take on Centre at home.

Burrton

The Chargers took an early 3-0 lead against the PBHS squad. Rayna Barnes scored a free throw to put the Lady Warriors on the scoreboard with five minutes on the clock in the first quarter. Burrton added a free throw but Barnes added a basket at the three and a half mark to cut the Charger lead to 1, 4-3. The Lady Warriors took the lead late in the quarter with another basket by Barnes, 5-4.

Lady Warrior offense had only 2 points in the second quarter with a free throw each from Tori Schroeder and Barnes.

Burrton added 10 and PBHS trailed 14-7 at the half.

PBHS defense held the Chargers to 6 points in the third period. The Lady Warrior offense had a basket each from Michaela Methvin, Mackenzie Ensminger and Barnes. Jessica Noble cut the Charger lead to 5, 20-15, late in the period with two free throws.

Burrton outscored PBHS, 13-9, in the fourth quarter and defeated the Lady Warriors, 33-24. Methvin, Paige Lewis and Sarah Hofkamp each had a basket in the final period. Noble had two free throws and Schroeder added 1.

Scoring: Barnes, 8; Methvin, 4; Noble, 4; Lewis, 2; Ensminger, 2; Hofkamp, 2; Schroeder, 2.

Berean Academy

Berean scored first to take the early 2-0 lead. Barnes evened the score with a bucket with 6 minutes on the clock.

Berean extended the lead with a basket and a free throw, but Hofkamp cut the lead to 1, 5-4, with a basket with 4:36 on the clock. Berean added 6 more points and held PBHS scoreless for the remainder of the period. Berean led, 11-4, at the end of one quarter.

Barnes had the only PBHS offense in the second with two free throws. Berean added 10. PBHS trailed, 21-6, at the half.

The slight edge went to Berean in the third with 7 points. PBHS scored 6. The Lady Warriors of PBHS were down, 28-12, at the end of the third period. Methvin, Schroeder and Barnes each had 2-point baskets.

PBHS added 10 in the final period, but Berean added 11. Berean defeated PBHS, 39-22. Noble had a trey in the fourth and Hofkamp had a basket and a free throw. Schroeder and Barnes added 2 each.

Scoring: Barnes, 8; Hofkamp, 5; Schroeder, 4; Noble, 3; Methvin, 2.
