The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors were defeated Friday by Wakefield at home, 43-28. The team is still searching for a win this season and will next participate this week in the Cougar Classic at Centre.
Neither offense had much success in the first period of the contest. Michaela Methvin and Rayna Barnes each had a basket for the PBHS squad. Wakefield scored 7 and had a 3-point edge at the end of the first quarter.
A Bomber free throw added 1 early in the second quarter. Mackenzie Ensminger and Sarah Hofkamp each had a basket and PBHS tied the game at 8-8. Wakefield added a trey, but Methvin cut the edge to 1, 11-10, with 5:15 on the clock in the first half. Brandee Burnett added two free throws and the Lady Warriors took the lead, 12-11. Wakefield regained the lead with two baskets but Methvin added one more for the PBHS squad. The Bombers added two free throws before the half. The Lady Warriors trailed, 19-14, at halftime.
The PBHS offense went cold in the third quarter and only generated 5 points with baskets from Paige Lewis and Barnes and a free throw from Methvin. Wakefield added 16 points to extend their lead to 16, 35-19.
The Lady Warriors outscored the Bombers, 9-8, in the fourth quarter, but Wakefield took the victory over PBHS, 43-28.
