The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors basketball team was 0-3 in the Marion Classic at Marion last week. PBHS lost in first-round action on Dec. 7 to host Marion, 34-29. In round two on Thursday, the Lady Warriors of PBHS lost to the Berean Academy Lady Warriors, 46-11. The third loss in the tournament came Saturday in round three to Belle Plain, 55-22. The team will play at home against Berean Academy on Friday and then take a break until 2011.
Marion
Neither Lady Warrior offense had a strong first quarter. Marion earned the slight 2-point edge at the end of the period, 7-5. Rayna Barnes had 3 for PBHS and Sarah Hofkamp added a basket.
Again in the second quarter, neither team had huge offensive production, but Marion edged the PBHS squad at the half, 16-11. Michaela Methvin, Hofkamp, and Barnes each had 2 on the scoreboard in the quarter.
Marion outscored PBHS, 7-4, in the third. Heather Brooks made a trey for the PBHS squad and Barnes had a free throw. The PBHS Lady Warriors trailed, 23-15, at the end of the period.
Even though PBHS offense improved with 14 points in the fourth, Marion took the victory, 34-29. Kaycee Gonzalez had 5 in the final quarter. Brooks added another trey. Brandee Burnett, Mackenzie Ensminger, and Hofkamp each added 2.

Berean Academy
Berean held PBHS scoreless in the first quarter. PBHS trailed, 17-0, at the end of the first period.
Hofkamp and Tori Schroeder each had a 2-point basket in the second period. Berean added 10 to their total and led, 27-4, at the half.
Schroeder and Barnes teamed up for 4 points in the third quarter. Berean built on their lead and had the big advantage at the end of the period, 36-8.
Burnett had 2 in the final period and Barnes scored a free throw. Berean earned the win, 46-11.

Belle Plain
Both offenses were slow in the first. Belle Plain had the slight edge, 9-7, at the buzzer.
Brooks had a trey for the Lady Warriors. Hofkamp and Barnes each added 2.
Belle Plain offense sizzled in the second quarter, scoring 23 points. PBHS offense struggled and only added 4, 2 each from Hofkamp and Barnes. PBHS trailed, 32-11, at the half.
Barnes had a basket in the third quarter for the only PBHS offense. Belle Plain added 15 and had the big lead, 47-13, at the end of the period.
PBHS had the highest scoring quarter of the contest with the addition of 9 points in the fourth quarter, but Belle Plain took the victory 55-22. Hofkamp had 4 in the final period. Barnes and Burnett each had 2 and Schroeder added a free throw.
