The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors volleyball team took to the court Oct. 4 at Elyria. The squad lost to Centre, 16-25 and 16-25, but came back to defeat Elyria, 25-18 and 25-16. The team will play at Solomon for the Wheat State League Tournament on Saturday.
Centre
Kaycy Gonzalez opened with an ace for the Lady Warrior lead, 1-0. Rayna Barnes added a tip. Centre then came back to score three. Barnes scored a kill to tie the contest at 3. A Brandee Burnett ace and a Paige Lewis kill gave the team the 5-3 lead, but Centre rallied and came back to tie the game at 9. Centre extended their lead despite kills from Lewis, Burnett, and Tori Schroeder. The Lady Warriors lost game one, 16-25.
Centre took the lead, 6-1, before Schroeder scored a second point for the PBHS squad. Centre remained in control of the tempo of game two, leading by as much as 12 in the contest. PBHS lost game two, 16-25.
Elyria
The Lady Warriors had a good start in game one with kills from Schroeder and Barnes and two aces form Burnett to lead, 4-1. Lewis added three kills and Burnett, Sarah Hofkamp, and McKenzie Ensminger all scored points, and PBHS led, 11-6. A Schroeder kill ended game two, 25-18.
Gonzalez opened game two with an ace. Elyria challenged, but Lewis, Barnes, Burnett, and Schroeder kept the pressure on with points at the net. PBHS defeated Elyria, 25-16.
