Lady Warriors place 6th at weekend tournament

The latest action for the Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors basketball team was a road trip to Centre for the Centre Tournament. The team suffered a 42-20 loss to Rural Vista on Jan. 21. They came back for a Friday 40-29 victory over Wakefield, but lost on Saturday to Solomon, 40-26. PBHS will have a week off before they take on Elyria Christian at home on Tuesday.

Rural Vista

Slow offense in the first for both squads gave the Rural Vista team the slight 10-7 edge at the end of the quarter. Christa Elliott led the PBHS offense with 5 points in the first quarter. Rylie McDowell added 2.

Rural Vista had a slightly better second quarter with 11 points, while the Lady Warriors earned only 6. Katy Benson, Jordan Gibson, and Elliott each had 2 in the period. PBHS fell behind 21-13 at halftime.

Defensive pressure from Rural Vista limited the Lady Warriors to 6 points in the second half. Gibson had a 2-point basket in the third and Brianna Larsen and McDowell each had 2 in the fourth. Rural Vista added 21 points and defeated PBHS 42-20.

Scoring

Elliott, 7; McDowell, 4; Gibson, 4; Benson, 3; Larsen, 2.

Wakefield

The PBHS offense claimed an early 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Benson led with 5. Larsen added 4 and McDowell tacked on 2.

Wakefield had a one-point margin 8-7 in the second quarter scoring, but the Lady Warriors still had a 18-12 lead at halftime. Benson had 6 points in the period. Elliott added a free throw.

Again, both offenses had close point totals but Wakefield earned the 12-11 edge. PBHS hung onto the lead 29-24 at the end of three. Elliott had 5 in the period. McDowell and Benson each added 3.

PBHS defense held Wakefield to 5 in the final quarter. Lady Warrior offense generated 11 for the 40-29 victory. Elliott had 5 points, all from the line. Larsen scored 4 points and McDowell added a 2-point basket.

Benson, 14; Elliott, 11; Larsen, 8; McDowell, 7.

Solomon

The first quarter scoring edge went to Solomon 12-9. PBHS offense was led by Elliott with 3 in the period Benson, Gibson and McDowell each had 2.

Both teams put in 9 in the second. PBHS trailed by three, 21-18, at the half of the contest. McDowell led the Lady Warrior offense with 5, including a trey. Elliott and Larsen each added 2.

The Solomon offense outscored PBHS 19-8 in the second half. Benson had 4 third quarter points and Larsen added 2. McDowell had the only basket for PBHS in the final quarter. PBHS was defeated 40-26.
