Lady Warriors lose home opener against Chase County

Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors opened the season at home Friday against Chase County and lost to the Lady Bulldogs, 46-29.

The team will next compete in the Marion Classic Tournament at Marion.

Both offenses were even in the first quarter of the season opener and were tied, 8-8. Danielle Savage had four for the Lady Warriors including two free throws. Traylee Woodruff and Kelsie Noble each had two.

Chase County took the slight edge in the second period, outscoring PBHS 10-6. Woodruff led the second quarter PBHS scoring with three points. Tori Schroeder had a basket and Michaela Methvin got on the board with a free throw. PBHS trailed slightly at the half, 18-14.

The Lady Bulldogs increased their lead in the third with 16 additional points. A 10-point total from the PBHS squad left the Lady Warriors down by 10 at the end of the period, 34-24.

Methvin led the quarter with four points, including two free throws. Sarah Hofkamp, Savage, and Woodruff each had a basket.

Twelve points of offense from Chase County gave them the win over the Lady Warriors. PBHS scored five in the fourth, three from Savage and two from Julie Wedel.

The Lady Warriors shot 30.6 percent in the contest and made 53.8 percent from the free throw line. Savage led the team with nine points and 11 rebounds. Woodruff had seven points and five steals.

Savage scored 9 points; Woodruff, 7; Methvin, 5; Noble, 2; Wedel, 2; Schroeder, 2; and Hofkamp, 2.
