The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warrior basketball team opened at home Friday with a loss to Chase County, 49-39. The team will be in tournament action next with competition in the Marion Classic at Marion.
PBHS jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter. Lady Warrior scoring was led by Brandee Burnett with 4 points. Paige Lewis, McKenzie Ensminger, Kaycy Gonzalez, Sarah Hofkamp, and Rayna Barnes each contributed 2. Tori Schroeder got the board with a free throw.
Barnes went to the bench with three fouls early in the second quarter and Lady Warrior point production slowed. The PBHS lead vanished with 1 minute, 22 seconds left in the half and Chase County took the lead. The Lady Warriors managed only 6 in the period but Chase County came on strong and added 22. Hofkamp got a 2-point basket. Burnett had two free throws. Ensminger and Schroeder each had 1 from the line. PBHS trailed by 5 at halftime, 26-21.
Neither offense scored big in the third quarter. Burnett led the PBHS scoring with 5 of the 9 Lady Warrior points. Schroeder and Gonzalez each added 2. The Lady Bulldogs added 11. Chase County had a 7-point lead, 37-30, at the end of the third quarter.
The PBHS offense was outscored by 3 in the final period. Barnes and Burnett each had 4 points. Schroeder added a free throw. Chase County defeated the Lady Warriors by 10, 49-39.
Burnett led the team scoring with 15 points. Barnes and Schroeder led the defense with 12 rebounds each.
