The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors lost a close contest in the season opener Friday at Chase County. The Bulldogs edged the PBHS squad, 27-24. The team will play next in the Marion Classic tournament at Marion.
PBHS took the lead in the first and led by five, 6-1, at the end of the first quarter. Brandee Burnett had three points, Kayce Gonzalez had two, and Tori Schroeder had a free throw.
PBHS offense remained in control in the second period with the addition of nine points. PBHS defense held Chase County to two. Michaela Methvin and Sarah Hofkamp each had four points. The Lady Warriors led, 14-3, at halftime.
The only PBHS offense in the third quarter was two free throws from Burnett. The Lady Bulldogs had an improved quarter and came back to tie the game at 16 at the buzzer.
Chase County took the lead in the fourth quarter and added 11 points. Methvin added six to the total. Rayna Barnes also added a basket. The Lady Warriors were defeated 27-24.
