Lady Warriors lose a close game

The Lady Warriors lost a close game Tuesday with a 42-37 loss to Hutch Trinity. The team will finish the season with a senior night matchup against Berean and then prepare for sub-state action.

The Celtics opened with a trey but Danielle Savage cut the lead to 1 with a basket with 6 minutes on the clock. Hutch Trinity added 4 points but Michaela Methvin added 2 and the Lady Warriors trailed by 3 with 1 minute left in the quarter, 7-4. With 2 seconds left on the clock, the Celtics came up with two free throws and the Lady Warriors were down, 9-4, at the end of the quarter.

Methvin and Savage teamed up for 4 points early in the second. The Celtics added 3 but two baskets from Savage put the game even at 12. A basket from Methvin gave the Lady Warriors the lead and a trey from Jessica Noble extended the lead to 5 with 1:30 left in the half. The Celtics came up with 3 more points before the half but Traylee Woodruff scored 2 for PBHS and the Lady Warriors’ edge at the half was 4, 19-15.

PBHS scored 6 in the third quarter and held the Celtics to 5. Woodruff had a basket and two free throws and Methvin had a basket. PBHS led 25-20 at the end of three quarters.

PBHS remained on top in the early minutes of the fourth period but the Celtics chipped away at the lead. With 2:34 remaining in the period, the Hutch Trinity squad took the lead, 33-31. A rebound and basket by Savage made the game even at 33.

The Celtics again took the lead and PBHS trailed for the remainder of the game. A basket from Paige Lewis cut the margin to 3 with 22 seconds left in the game, but free throws down the line from the Celtics determined the win. PBHS lost, 42-37.

Woodruff had 6 points in the fourth, Savage had 4, and Lewis added 2.

Woodruff and Savage each had 12 in the contest. Methvin added 8 and Noble had 3. Lewis scored a basket.
