Lady Warriors host two matches

The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors volleyball competed at home Sept. 13. The first match with White City resulted in a two-game win, 25-19 and 25-17. The second match went to three games, but the PBHS squad lost to Goessel, 21-25, 25-21, and 14-25.

White City

Kaycy Gonzalez opened the scoring for the PBHS squad with an ace. Tori Schroeder and Paige Lewis followed with kills and PBHS led, 3-1. Tips by Lewis and Sarah Hofkamp and an ace by Schroeder help to build an 8-4 Lady Warriors’ lead. Kills from Brandee Burnett, Schroeder, Rayna Barnes and Hofkamp helped the PBHS squad to the 25-19 game-one victory.

Game two opened with a second-point ace from Burnett and kills from Lewis, Schroeder and Gonzalez. Gonzalez and Barnes added aces and PBHS coasted to the 25-17 win.

Goessel

Game one against Goessel was even throughout the first 17 points. Barnes had the first kill in the game and two early aces. Lewis, Gonzalez, and Schroeder each added kills. The Lady Warriors led by as many as 3 in the game but came back to tie the PBHS squad late in the contest. Goessel took the lead, 17-16, and went on to take the competition. PBHS lost 21-25.

Burnett aces gave the PBHS squad the early game-two lead, 3-1. Jordan Gibson served up a couple of aces and PBHS extended their lead, 9-3. Goessel then went on a run and tied the game at 10. Kills by Barnes and Schroeder helped the team to a 3-point lead, 24-21. Lewis ended game two, 25-21, with a kill.

Schroeder scored a kill to tie the Bluebirds at 1. Barnes added a kill, but then Goessel went on a run to an 8-3 lead before Lewis added kill. Gonzalez scored three kills in the contest but PBHS was defeated, 14-25.
