Lady Warriors finish tournament 4-1

The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors volleyball team had four wins in head-to-head competition without losing a single game but lost in the championship game at the Solomon High School Invitational on Saturday.

In the first four matches of the day, PBHS defeated Solomon, 25-17 and 25-18; Inman, 25-16 and 25-22; Wakefield, 25-14 and 25-13; and Elyria 25-20 and 25-15.

The squad fell short in the last match, taking on Inman again and losing, 14-25 and 17-25. Up next for the teams are matches at home and Wakefield.

Solomon

PBHS played from behind in the early minutes of game one. Kaycy Gonzalez was strong from the service line and helped the Lady Warriors take a 13-12 lead. More aces from Brandee Burnett, Rayna Barnes, and McKenzie Ensminger helped the PBHS squad to the game victory, 25-17.

In game two, PBHS built an 11-6 lead with points from Sarah Hofkamp, Paige Lewis, and Burnett. Rayna Barnes added an ace, and Lewis and Gonzalez attacked the net for kills. PBHS won game two, 25-18.

Inman

PBHS took an early 3-0 lead that included an ace from Burnett. Inman came back and evened the game, but offense from Lewis, Barnes, Burnett, Gonzalez, and Schroeder helped to boost the Lady Warriors to a 15-8 advantage. PBHS won game one, 25-16.

Kills from Schroeder and Lewis gave the PBHS squad an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Warriors held the lead for the remainder of game two and took the win, 25-22.

Wakefield

PBHS had no trouble in game one. The team built a 10-3 lead with scoring from Lewis, Burnett, Schroeder, Barnes, and Gonzalez. A kill by Lewis ended the game, 25-14.

Game two began with a tip score from Burnett. Wakefield briefly took the lead, but solid net play from Schroeder, Hofkamp, Barnes, and Lewis helped the team to a game two victory, 25-13.

Elyria

Schroeder, Lewis, and Burnett each scored a point to start game one. Elyria came back to challenge, but kills by Burnett and Gonzalez ended the game, 25-20.

PBHS jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in game two, but Elyria came back to tie the game at 5. The PBHS team built a lead with kills from Gonzalez and Barnes and aces from Lewis and Schroeder, but Elyria challenged coming within two, 13-11.

Barnes, Gonzalez, and Lewis each had scores late in the match. Hofkamp earned point 24, and Lewis ended the match with an ace, 25-15.

Inman, championship

Lewis began game one with a kill, but then Inman took over the scoring and the lead, 7-3. PBHS lost, 14-25.

Game two started with kills from Schroeder and Lewis. The PBHS team led, 6-4, but then Inman came back to tie the game at 9. A Schroeder kill broke the tie, followed by a Burnett ace and a Hofkamp tip. Inman then went on an 8-point run and led, 19-14. The Lady Warriors struggled late in the game and lost, 17-25.

Burnett — 6 aces, 48 digs, 1 block, 3 kills, 2 assists.

Ensminger — 11 digs.

Gonzalez — 8 digs, 12 kills, 5 aces.

Hofkamp — 29 digs, 1 block, 5 kills, 53 assists.

Lewis — 23 digs, 1 block, 7 aces, 30 kills.

Schroeder — 1 ace, 15 digs, 15 kills, 5 assists.
