The Lady Warriors of Peabody-Burns High School ended the 2010-11 volleyball season Saturday at substate competition at Berean Academy in Elbing. The squad won the first match of the day against Burden-Central, 25-15 and 25-14. They were defeated in second-round play by Berean Academy, 13-25 and 24-26. PBHS finished the year with a record of 18-16.
Burden- Central
Burden-Central took the early edge against the PBHS squad, leading the Lady Warriors, 10-4. With Michaela Methvin at the service line, PBHS climbed back into the game, 10-12. Two kills from Paige Lewis pulled the team to within one, 12-13. Brandee Burnett served four aces in five points and PBHS led, 17-13. Kaycy Gonzalez added two aces, Lewis added another kill, and Embry Hodges ended the game with a kill.
PBHS offense included a Methvin kill, a Lewis ace, and a Hodges kill. Two aces from Hodges gave the Lady Warriors a 6-4 lead. Methvin then earned a kill and added three aces. Rayna Barnes had two kills to finish the game.
Berean Academy
PBHS struggled throughout game one. Methvin and Rayna Barnes teamed up for a block and Tori Schroeder earned a point with a tip-set. The Lady Warriors lost, 13-25.
PBHS again had a slow start in game two. Hodges and Schroeder teamed up for a block to get the Lady Warriors on the board, 1-3. The next point came from Methvin, but Berean led, 7-2.
Methvin had two kills, but PBHS still trailed, 7-12. A Barnes tip set, a Burnett ace, and a Sarah Hofkamp set kept the Lady Warriors in the scoring, 10-17.
PBHS rallied late in the match and points from Hodges, Lewis, Hofkamp, Gonzalez, and Schroeder helped PBHS to a 24-all tie. The last two points of the game went to Berean.
