The Lady Tomahawks competed in the first round of the Heart of America League tournament Tuesday at Canton-Galva. The squad took on the host team and lost the match in three games 21-25, 25-14, 11-15.
Canton-Galva took the early 5-1 lead in game one. Saje Bayes served three points to pull the team to within one, 4-5. Canton-Galva then took control and extended their lead to 15-10. Jessica Hartley served five consecutive points to close the gap, 18-21. The Lady Tomahawks came within two, 21-23, late in the match, but Canton-Galva earned the last two points. PBJHS lost game one, 21-25.
Jordan Gibson and Alyssa Brooks combined for six service points to give the PBJHS squad the early game two advantage, 6-2. Canton-Galva didn’t challenge the lead again and PBJHS won game two, 25-14.
The Lady Tomahawks took an early 3-1 edge in game three, but Canton-Galva came back to score seven unanswered points to take the lead 8-3. While PBJHS stayed within reach, Canton-Galva took three points to take command, 14-9. PBJHS lost game three, 11-15.
“I’m thankful for the effort that the players have given to the team this season,” head coach Darren Schroeder said. “They are much improved. I’m also thankful for all of the community support that we have received this year.”
