Of the 17 female athletes who are out for basketball this year at Centre High School, eight are returning letter-winners. Coach Alan Stahlecker is counting on that fact for his team to be competitive this year. They hope to improve on last year’s 9-13 record.
“We are not big, but we do have a good amount of experience,” Stahlecker said. “We are fairly quick and handle the ball well. We should be competitive.”
After five years as assistant girls coach, this is his first year as head coach.
Four starting players are returning to lead the varsity. Shelby Deines, a 5-6 senior guard, and Carlye Simons, a 5-4 senior guard, both averaged 8.1 points per game last year.
Ripley Howard and Allison Shields, both 5-8 juniors, were leading rebounders.
Other returning letter-winners are seniors Samantha Seifert and Josie Peterson, and juniors Amanda Floyd and DJ Turner.
Stahlecker is assisted by Kurt Kemble.
