Kent Richmond
James Kent Richmond, 87, of Marion, Kansas, passed away Oct. 19, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Kent was born Aug. 25, 1931 at Marion, Kansas, the son of Howard and Mildred (Childs) Richmond.
Kent and Alice Faye Ward were married Oct. 11, 1952 in Arkansas. Two children, Brenda Jo and James Kent Richmond Jr. were born of this union.
Kent attended Marion school with the class of 1951. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
In 1959, he joined Wm. H. Ward Insurance Agency with his father-in-law. This later became J & K Insurance Agency.
He finished his career as a rural mail carrier in Lincolnville, Burdick, and later in Burns.
As a retirement project, Kent and Alice opened County Dreams Bed and Breakfast in 1992. During this time, Kent also operated AK Ranch raising registered Texas longhorns.
In Oct. 2014, Kent was very proud to be able to fly to Washington D.C. with his son Jim on a Kansas Honor Flight.
Kent was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts in Marion. He served on the Marion Library Board and Middle Creek Watershed District #62.
Kent was an avid fisherman, who spent his afternoons golfing at Marion Country Club, and enjoyed horseback riding as a member of the Marion Saddle Club.
He loved watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their many sporting events and taking them fishing.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Francis Helmer and June Weatherbee.
Kent is survived by his wife, Alice, of the home; children Brenda Soyez and husband Robert of Marion, and Jim Richmond and wife Jan of Wichita; sister Marilyn Morris of Elk City, Oklahoma; grandsons Michel and Sherry Soyez of Marion, Nick and Lindsey Richmond, Cheney, David and Cortney Richmond of Wichita; great-grandchildren Devin and Mickelly Soyez; Lily, Emma, and Abby Richmond, and Wyatt and Wesson Richmond.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the church at Elmdale Cemetery, Elmdale, Kansas.
A memorial fund has been established with Good Shepard Hospice in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.
