Keeping you connected

Hopefully those of you receiving this “alumni edition” of the newspaper will find we have included something of interest about your hometown or someone you remember from your days here. We always enjoy the challenge of putting together a newspaper that includes the special section just for those of you who grew up in Peabody.

Peabody Main Street Association foots the bill to bring you the newspaper and Main Street newsletter with updates on what is going on. PMSA wants to keep you all linked to the community. Peabody is the only Main Street community in Kansas to partner with the local newspaper and alumni association to keep all of you connected to your hometown. In addition to our regular subscribers, this edition goes out to about 1,500 of you who graduated from PHS (or more recently, PBHS).

During the first year of this effort, Peabody Main Street and Peabody Gazette-Bulletin won a Kansas Governor’s Award for best newsletter. Not too shabby, huh?

In this issue, we have several letters to the editor from former residents and PHS grads, and requests for information about people who once were part of Peabody. Main Street board members also have written articles about what has been happening in the community and about plans for the coming months.

I would like for all of you to use the newspaper as a resource for information about Peabody, its history, former residents, and even local trivia if that is your interest. (A year or so ago Becky Ediger’s copy of Gladys Hart’s recipe for those famous dairy creme “snack burgers” generated too many inquiries and comments to publish. If only I had known how popular that information would be, I’d have printed copies to sell for cold, hard cash!)

It would be helpful if you would let us know who else might want to receive a copy of the paper and newsletter four times a year. We have done our best to contact alumni, but we know we haven’t reached everyone. Also, if you move or change your name, please let us know. Part of the funding for the newsletter/alumni edition is spent on retrieving the paper from people who have moved. There is a brief address change form printed in this edition so that you can let us know you have gone elsewhere … please use it. We want to maintain our connection!

By the way, if you missed out on the edition with Gladys Hart’s snack burger recipe I still have the recipe and will be more than happy to send it to you!
