An auction to raise money for the Chaplain Kapaun Legacy Fund has been scheduled for Nov. 17 at the Pilsen community building. The event was organized by Kelly Krch and Sam Oborny.
A spaghetti dinner catered by Marissa Makovec will be served at 11:30 a.m., followed by the auction, which will last until all items are sold. Joe and Tish Vinduska will conduct the auction.
“We decided we needed to do this to raise some money for the fund,” Krch said.
The women are asking people to donate unique, antique, or handmade items to be sold.
Items donated so far include several quilts, a metal headboard bench created by cousins Tom and Ethan Oborny, an antique lamp, a Last Supper picture, food items including pies by Millie Vinduska, baskets of cookies and cupcakes, and homemade canned goods such as jellies and jams.

According to Harriet Bina, the Chaplain Kapaun Legacy Fund continues to grow. Held at Tampa State Bank, it was established in April with a $1,000 donation from the newspaper to support improvements to the Kapaun Museum. Bina said tourists often make donations, and memorial funds sometimes go to the museum.
St. John Nepomucene Church plans to use some of the money to make the museum more secure. Bina said the rectory is very small and a new building is desperately needed to accommodate the large groups of tourists who are visiting Pilsen in ever-increasing numbers.
