The Peabody-Burns Junior High School football season ended Thursday with a victory at Centre, 62-14. The team finished the season with a 2-5 record.
In the first quarter, Clayton Philpott connected with Brady Logan-Hanan for a 40-yard passing touchdown. Philpott earned 2 on the conversion run. PBJHS led, 8-0, with 5 minutes, 13 second on the clock.
Philpott scored the second touchdown for the Junior Warriors with less than a minute left in the first quarter. The 10-yard run put the team up, 14-0 with 57 seconds on the clock.
Centre scored next on a kickoff return for a touchdown. The Junior Warrior defense stopped the conversion attempt, and PBJHS led, 14-6, with 38 seconds left in the first period.
Colton Glenn caught a Philpott pass to set up the next PBJHS score. Philpott ran from the 8-yard line for 6 points. The Junior Warriors led, 20-6, early in the second quarter.
Philpott returned an interception for a 69-yard touchdown to give PBJHS a 26-6 advantage with just under four minutes left in the half.
The Junior Warriors scored once more on a 3-yard run from Philpott for 6. Philpott connected with Ezequiel Trevino for the conversion and PBJHS led, 34-6.
Logan-Hanan set up the first second half score with an interception that put the Junior Warrior offense at midfield. Philpott found Trevino for a 40-yard score. The margin favored PBJHS, 40-6.
Centre scored next. The Junior Warriors were up, 40-14, before Philpott reached the end zone and added the 2-point conversion run for a score of 48-14.
Derek Newman got on the board next for the PBJHS squad with a 20-yard run. Newman also added the conversion. The Junior Warriors led, 56-14, with five minutes left in the ballgame.
Logan-Hanan tacked on the final 6 points for PBJHS with a 10-yard run. The clock ran out and the Junior Warriors claimed the victory, 62-14.
