July Fourth committee heads chosen

The Peabody Fourth Fest Celebration Society has selected committee heads.

Brian McDowell will remain in charge of fireworks and be master of ceremonies for the fireworks show. He is hoping for additional help building set pieces (most Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings). Contact him at (620) 504-6261.

Kristi Silvernale will handle vendors at the park and donations for set pieces or general expenses.

The parade again will be organized by Tammy Whiteside and Rose Thomason.

Line-up will begin at the high school at 4 p.m. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. The theme is “Bang in the Fourth,” and the women say there will be a designated “wet” area again this year where parade observers may be sprayed by fire hoses.

Cash prizes will be presented in several categories, which will be announced later. To enter a float or parade unit, contact Whiteside or Thomason. Whiteside’s number is (316) 727-6894; Thomason’s number is (316) 727-6828.

Rex Watson will put his knowledge about hot rods to use. He has volunteered to organize a car show at Santa Fe Park. Watson can be reached at 983-9231. The Peabody-Burns Road Warriors will serve as hosts for this event.

Peabody Recreation Commission will sponsor kids games. Ray Savage is in charge of a softball tournament. Myrna Wood a dog show. Larry Rose will be in charge of the flea market. Preston Hodges and Arlen Gfeler will handle the alumni dance July 3, and Tim Peterson will round up volunteers to work the gates.

“The only thing I am missing is a chairman for the horse shoe pitching tournament,” McDowell said. “I’m still working on finding that chairman.”

McDowell said volunteers were needed for committees.
