Jason Allison

Jason Bruce “Boomer” Allison of Kindred, North Dakota, died May 1, 2017, after a three-year struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Jason died in his home with his wife and mother by his side. He was 44 years old.

Jason was born May 23, 1972, to Leslie and Linda Allison in WaKeeney, Kansas. The family moved when he was two to a home near Florence, Kansas, that had once belonged to his great-great-grandfather. Jason loved to play in the yards and explore the woods with his brother and friends. Swimming in the creek brought many hours of fun as well.

Having attended Marion-Florence schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade, Jason graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1990. He then attended Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas, for three semesters.

He worked with a road construction crew for a couple of years before he came to North Dakota to visit a friend. He loved the country and decided if he could find a job, he would stay. The Bobcat Company of Gwinner was hiring and he soon had a job. He worked there until ALS made him too weak to work.

While working at Bobcat, he met a girl who would become the “love of his life.” He married Angela Kay Holmstrom on July 5, 2003. They made their home in Kindred, where home was graced with two beautiful boys, Grant and Luke.

Jason joined the United Methodist Church in his youth, but after his marriage, he attended St. Maurice’s Catholic Church with his wife and sons, where he was always happy to help out. He was an avid member and supporter of United Steelworkers 560, holding many leadership positions and always working to better the employment conditions of his fellow workers.

Jason is survived by his wife, Angie, and his sons, Grant and Luke. He also is survived by his parents, Leslie and Linda Allison; brother Lane Allison and wife, Lory, and daughters Bethany and Sydney; sister Raquel Riggs and children Starla Gesaman and husband, Josh, Merissa Bowman and husband, Greg, Erika Smalley and husband, Brandon, and Les Riggs; and sister VanDee Miller and husband, Patrick, and children Sophia and Bruce. He also will be missed by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by father-in-law William Holmstrom, brother-in-law Richard Riggs, and nephew Calvin Riggs.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred, with a prayer service following at 7 p.m.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior.
