Janzens to celebrate 70th anniversary

Edwin and Mary Jane Janzen will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Oct. 19.

They were married by the Rev. P.H. Unruh at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church on Oct. 19, 1941.

The couple has five children: Don, John, Carol, Kay, and Bonita; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Farming for 50 years near Elbin, Ed also enjoyed working at the American Coach Company for 10 years, making furniture for family and friends, singing in choirs, playing his guitar, and helping people in need.

Mary Jane enjoyed making music, her flower gardens, and cooking, including 10 years as head cook at Elbing Grade School.

The Janzens have traveled extensively in the U.S., including to Hawaii and Alaska, as well as through Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate the Janzens’ 70th anniversary with an open house 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 in the community room of Kidron-Bethel, 3001 N. Ivy, North Newton, where the couple now lives. They request no gifts.
